PatentAssist starts from your invention disclosure, autofills the disclosure form, generates claims first, and then drafts the specification around them in IPO, USPTO, EPO or DPMA format, ready to export as .docx. For India that covers both provisional and complete specifications. Drafting is search-informed: AI agentic patent search and patentability search reports run in the same workspace. It also generates figure descriptions and patent drawings (Beta), and has an AI copilot for mid-draft edits. FER and office action response drafting launches in late October 2026. Lite and Pro include the same features; the price buys monthly AI credits (300 or 1,500).

Solve Intelligence is a browser-based patent platform. It drafts full applications, including claims, specification, figures, chemical and Markush claims and sequence listings, and it also covers office action analysis and responses, prior art search, and invalidity, FTO and infringement charts. Templates are compatible with Microsoft Word. It is well funded ($40M Series B in December 2025) and states SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification.

PatentPal automates the mechanical writing in a patent application. You drop in your claims and it generates the detailed description, flowcharts for method claims, block diagrams for systems, figure descriptions, an abstract and a summary. Drafts export to Word, and figures to Visio or PowerPoint.

DeepIP works inside Microsoft Word. It generates claims, specifications and abstracts from invention disclosures, analyses office action rejections and drafts responses with case-law citations, and lists patent drawing generation, prior art search, and patentability, FTO and invalidity work. Its homepage names USPTO, EPO and other offices including IPO. It raised a $25M Series B in March 2026.

XLScout's Drafting LLM generates claims, abstract, background and detailed description in a web editor, with AI-assisted flowcharts and block diagrams. It drafts in US and JP formats, with more promised, and connects to XLScout's Novelty Checker for prior art. XLScout also describes office action analysis, claim amendments and response drafting in Drafting LLM. XLScout states SOC 2 Type II compliance.

ClaimMaster is a long-running Microsoft Word add-in for patent proofreading, claim automation, office action shells and USPTO forms. Its top plan adds GPT-based tools that generate sections such as the background, define terms, and rewrite text. It is one of the few tools here with published prices.

9. Qthena (Questel)
Best for: Teams already working with Questel
Qthena is an AI drafting and prosecution assistant built by ipQuants and backed by Questel. It produces first drafts from a claim tree or disclosure, interprets sketches and drawings, suggests claim scope, and has a drawings feature. UK firm HGF uses it for drafting, office action responses, oppositions and appeals.

Best for: Firms that want a structured drafting environment that keeps claims, specification and figures in sync
Rowan Patents is a drafting environment in which specification text, claims, figures, chemical structures and sequences stay linked and renumber automatically, with AI-assisted section drafting. Clarivate acquired its developer, Rowan TELS, in July 2024, and it is still offered under the Clarivate name.

How to choose an AI patent drafting tool
- Start with the office you file at. Indian filings need provisional and complete specifications in IPO format, filed with Form 2. Most tools here are built for USPTO and EPO practice; ask each vendor to show you an IPO-format draft before you buy.
- Decide where you want to draft. If your firm lives in Microsoft Word, a Word add-in (DeepIP, ClaimMaster) changes the least. A web app (most of the others) gives you a dedicated editor and exports .docx.
- Check what the draft starts from. Some tools start from your invention disclosure and write the claims; others, such as PatentPal, need finished claims.
- Check whether drafting is search-informed. PatentAssist and XLScout connect drafting to their own patent search, so you can shape the claims around the prior art while you draft.
- Look past the first draft. If FER and office action responses are a large share of your work, check that the tool drafts them next to your applications. Solve Intelligence, DeepIP, XLScout, Patlytics, IP Author and Qthena list them, and PatentAssist launches them in late October 2026.
- Know the price before the demo. Only PatentAssist, ClaimMaster and IP Author publish prices. A self-serve trial is usually the quickest way to judge output quality.
- Test with a real disclosure. Run one past invention through two or three trials and compare the claims, not the marketing.

What is the best AI patent drafting tool for India?
For filings at the Indian Patent Office, choose a tool that drafts provisional and complete specifications in IPO format. Of the tools in this list, PatentAssist is the one that publishes IPO-format output. DeepIP lists IPO among supported offices; the others publish USPTO, EPO, PCT or JP formats.
Is there a free AI patent drafting tool?
No tool here is free for ongoing use, but several have free trials: PatentAssist (7 days), IP Author (14 days), ClaimMaster (30 days), and PatentPal. DeepIP's trial starts with a request form. Solve Intelligence, Patlytics and Qthena are sold through demos.
Can AI draft the complete specification I file with Form 2?
AI can produce a strong first draft of the claims and the complete specification, but a registered patent agent still has to review it, check the claims against the prior art, and take responsibility for what is filed. PatentAssist generates provisional and complete specifications in IPO format for that review.
Will an AI drafting tool replace my patent agent?
No. These tools draft faster, but the judgement on claim scope, prior art and prosecution strategy stays with the patent agent or attorney. They are most useful for getting a reviewable first draft quickly.
